GBPL key rules to know:

1. Face off: At the beginning of every game both teams will be summoned to a specific spot on whichever pub map is up. Once the players are all in place there will be a *wipe all, *getball (in the middle), and *timer 15. Once the ball is summoned in between the two teams then the game is on so don’t wait, go for the ball. To make this easy please do not move away from where you are summoned before the faceoff, and do not sit on walls. The penalty for delaying the faceoff will just be that you will not be included in it. You will be summoned all the way inside your goal area while it is going on. This will be at ref discretion, but they will be advised to be lenient and non-biased.

2. Losers ball: After every goal scored the team that got scored on will have the ball summoned into their defensive zone on or near their defensive cut line. The rule following the *getball is that the team that has scored cannot pick up the ball unless it respawns center. If the team who scored does pick up the ball then it will be *getballed one line closer to the “losers” goal with the same rule entailed. The “loser” team can force this by using specials correctly. If the team who broke the rule does it again then the ball will move another line closer, and it can move all the way to the line in the goal. If it is determined that a player is “sabotaging” their team with this rule then they will be immediately taken out of the game and banned from the league for the remainder of this season unless pardoned by the chairmen. If there is a saboteur then the ball won’t move to another line it will stay *getballed to the line where the infraction occurred. Lastly, if a ref forgets to do this due to being afk or retarded (like me) then the same rules will apply wherever the ball has spawned on the map.

3. Cut back line: On each side of whichever map is currently up in pub for the GBPL there is a cut line with rules attached. The cut back line is the “30” line. The “30” is in the very center of the line vertically and the line is also the second from the east or west wall on each map. The way this line works is once the offensive team passes the line and completes a pass on the other side then the ball cannot pass back over the line. If it does go over the line then the ball will be *getballed to the center of the defensive cutline and the same rules stated in the “losers ball” above will go into effect. Another rule here is that if a team steals the ball in their offensive zone that player can clear it to the other side of the cut line or the person who catches a pass from him can. Once there is a second completed pass the line is active and the ball cannot pass over it. Here are a few examples:
  1. A player on team A passes from behind the line to a player who is on the other side of it. Once this player catches the ball he can still pass it back over the line.
  2. A player on team A crosses the line with the ball and passes back over to a teammate. This is legal.
  3. A player on team A crosses the line and passes to a teammate who also has passed the line. The cut line rule now is active.
  4. A player on team A crosses the line and passes to a player right near the cut line who catches the ball and then is pded back over the line by a player on team B. In this case the cut line rule became active and was violated due to a timely special by a player on team B.
  5. If team A steals the ball in their offensive zone, the player who stole it passes to his teammate who then clears on the other side of the cut line this is legal. Once there is a second pass made then they may not clear it back over the cut line as the rule is active again.

Overtime: In the event of a tie at the end of the 15 minute regulation timer the game will go into a 4 vs 4 OvD (offense vs defense) mode. Each captain will be required to choose 4 players to be in at a time for either offense or defense. Subbing will also be allowed but must be done in a very timely manner. Each team’s 4 players will have 3 chances to score on the other team’s 4 defenders. Each goal attempt will have a one minute timer. The team that ends up with more goals will win the game. If there happens to be a tie then there will be a snake style OvD for the win.

I will be willing to ref. I have set macros already to be able to make this run faster. I know the rules and should be able to make this league run smoother. I will be out of town this weekend though and will not be able to ref. After this weekend I should be able to ref some games for you. I would like to get some practice at doing this though. So i am hoping public gets active... I leave tomorrow so i will not be able to host any scrims this week. Next week i would like to host some scrims, so if teams want to set some times to scrim sometime next week I should be able to host. Just let me know...

btw for refs, when you place the ball for ovd you might want to *getball it to a player first to reset the "idle" timer, last sunday there was some confusion when formac placed the ball and it immediately respawned in the center

Make a big bold Macro message that says Game On!!! or some sort when the center ball is moved, so I don't have to depend on the minimap or map to see when it is actually *getball'ed in the center. We don't all have huge resolutions to see it be moved.

Coordinating between the refs to add one of the available sound macros to this message, making sure it is the same one being used every game would help too.

Only if all prizes are wiped from all players, imho. You'd spend the first 40 seconds wasting all of the team's specials.


2. Losers ball:
Why don't you just *restart, *getball, *setscore? No need to wipe, it just places everyone in their respective spawn points. If you plan on taking stats, then forget it. The restart will cause issues. If you don't intend on taking stats, then it would probably make things a lot easier so long as you remember the current score (which you could see from the most recent goal anyway).

Well Realm this is what i was thinkin OvD is still 4v4, but all members present must play a round of 4v4. So its just not the best 4v4 on each team, its the best team overall. I believe after everyone is summoned they get wiped.

Oh, I see what you mean. I could see some captains saying a member (or more than one member) is afk during the OvD though, and instructing them to pretend to be so. Gay? Yes. Improbable? No.

a bot can automatically *warp players back to their sides and *getball the ball to the losers. fairly easily yes

You can't warp multiple players at the same time (can you?) and there needs to be a slight delay between each command. The bot would probably also have to check (prior to running the warp commands) which players are actually playing in the game and on which team - not sure if that's necessary or not though, nor how the bot could figure that out.

bot can read team name and move simply *summon everyone on that team to a location. There wouldn't need to be any sort of delay, the commands can run back to back and infantry will read them. The permit bot runs the permits pretty much instantly.

Most Infantry bots I've seen have all been text-based, they can't actually read what's printed on the screen. I don't know how to export a current team list, or how to display it in the chat window.

Why do referee's commands sometimes get dropped if we run the macros too fast then?

You can get team list stuff spammed to chat via the ?team or ?teaminfo commands? one of the two, there's definitely some commands for that I think.. I'm guessing the said bot or others more familiar with the game and such can detect them otherwise.

Are refs smodded or just modded? Smods have a bit more leeway in regards to all the commands and such, not sure if that affects the spamming of commands etc, but it could.

We're talking about public arena owner privileges. GBPL doesn't have SOE backing as a league, so no true mods.

The ?teaminfo command pops up the information in to the chat box, just like when you are in a zone that has a store and you're looking at an item information - but it doesn't actually store it there, so I don't think it can be exported. It's like a popup window within the text/chat window.

Damn, the losers ball would be so much easier in SB!

Realm, doesn't *restart wipe the players? It may be a function of the command.

Dain, you could always just *getball the player closest to the loser's respawn. One simple, effective macro.

lund the problem with that is what if the player who gets the ball is about to die. Or next to like 3 enemies, or shooting, or just like the worst player on the team that should never have the ball..
